This paper presents a taxonomy of asynchronous online discussion forums, aimed at enhancing understanding and awareness of different forum types within collaborative learning systems. Grounded in constructivist pedagogical principles, the taxonomy identifies key attributes and design factors that influence online discussions. The findings are intended to aid course designers in creating effective learning experiences, ultimately improving student success and satisfaction. The article also discusses implications for pedagogy and offers suggestions for future theoretical and empirical research in the field.
