The Qassim Medical School's first-year problem-based learning (PBL) curriculum incorporated a 5-week online intervention involving discussion forums (DFs) to address issues with feedback and interaction in PBL sessions. The intervention, which included 14 discussion threads for each group, was evaluated for satisfaction and post types. By the end of the block, 95% of students and all involved academic staff had participated. The forums generated around 2800 posts and 28,500 views. Feedback from 78% of students and all tutors was positive, with posts addressing learning objectives, concept maps, motivation, and tutor feedback. The study concluded that integrating e-learning with traditional PBL can enhance student engagement and address conventional PBL shortcomings.
