The study examines the use of personal stories in online discussion forums (ODFs) within a remotely taught adult development and aging class. It found that 22% of student posts contained personal stories, with nearly half serving a teach and inform function. Additionally, 10% of posts were responses to others' personal stories, primarily fulfilling empathic and social-bonding roles. The results suggest that personal stories play a significant role in fostering engagement, learning, and community in online learning environments.
