This study analyzes the types and frequency of social support provided on a large online bariatric surgery forum. It found that the majority of messages offered informational and emotional support, including advice on surgery preparation, coping strategies, and encouragement for weight loss and adherence to guidelines. Network, esteem, and tangible supports were less common. The study highlights the value of online forums as a resource for bariatric patients and suggests that healthcare providers should consider referring patients to these forums for additional support.
