This article examines how religious rituals from the Salafiyya Muslim community are adapted to computer-mediated environments (CMEs) such as Dutch and German chat rooms and discussion forums. It explores how rituals are transferred to these new digital spaces, focusing on the success factors of such transfers, including adherence to core values, participation, and protection of the sacred. The study finds that some rituals, like conversion, transition smoothly, while others, such as gender segregation practices, face mixed results or are not transferred at all. The outcomes of these transfers are influenced by the interaction between the characteristics of CMEs and the demands of the rituals.
