Two web-based forums for discussing diversity issues were evaluated in a graduate social work program with 91 students. The study found that 75% of students benefited from enhanced cultural competency, over 60% improved relationships with classmates, and 54% felt anonymity fostered honesty. Students in identified forums reported greater cultural competency gains compared to those in anonymous forums, and over one-third improved their technological skills. The study concludes that online forums are effective tools for advancing cultural competency in social work education.
