An analysis of 100 online sexual health forum pages from five popular websites, posted in August 2011, revealed significant gaps in young people's understanding of sexual health. The study indexed forums by demographics, primary concerns, types of questions and responses, misconceptions, and keywords. Common issues included misinformation about tampon use, menstrual fluid, hormonal contraception, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and pregnancy signs. The study suggests that online sexual health resources should be organized by symptoms and that sex education should focus on transmission risks associated with sexual practices and guide students in accessing local services.
