This study examines how social anxiety and participation styles influence active participation in asynchronous online discussions and how this participation impacts academic achievement. Using path analysis, it finds that both social anxiety and participation styles significantly affect active participation, which in turn has a notable effect on academic performance. The research, conducted during a course amid the COVID-19 pandemic, offers insights into tailoring online discussions to better meet learners' needs.
