This study evaluates algorithms for retrieving threads in large online forums by comparing methods that leverage thread structure with simpler approaches that treat each thread as a single document. The findings indicate that utilizing thread structure improves retrieval performance, and selective scoring methods, which focus on a subset of messages, outperform inclusive methods that use all messages in a thread.
