This paper presents a new approach to computer conferencing and discussion forums in university-level courses, which often place significant time demands on academics. It introduces a model where discussion forums are viewed as student-centered peer e-learning environments. In this model, students take on the role of expert and facilitator, while the instructor serves as an overseer of the dialogue. This approach encourages students to play a more active and central role in their learning process, thereby reducing the instructional burden.
