This study explores gender differences in the use of internet forums for accessing information on depression, focusing on English- and German-language forums. It examines whether the gender distribution of help-seeking individuals aligns with expected ratios based on internet usage and depression prevalence. The study analyzed 200 threads from two forums, one English (UK-based) and one German (Germany-based), and compared actual gender ratios of contributors to hypothetical values. Findings reveal that the German forum had a significantly higher female-to-male (F) ratio compared to the English forum. This discrepancy might be due to differences in presentation style, language, and cultural context.
