A comparison of 215 postings on a suicide forum and 94 postings on a self-injury forum was conducted to assess the presence of 10 warning signs for suicide, as proposed by the American Association of Suicidology. The analysis revealed that postings on the suicide forum had higher scores for these warning signs compared to the self-injury forum. Significant differences were found for six of the ten warning signs: suicidal ideation, purposelessness, feeling trapped, hopelessness, withdrawal, and, conversely, recklessness. These findings support the effectiveness of using these warning signs to identify individuals at risk of suicide.
