This analysis of online forums explores experiences of sexual violence and safety among transwomen, with a specific focus on transwomen of color. The study identified three key themes: violence in intimate relationships, fear of violence and safety strategies, and coping mechanisms after sexual assault. The analysis revealed that transwomen of color faced intensified gender policing and scrutiny due to non-conformity to normative femininity ideals, which are often predicated on white, middle-class standards. This intersection of gender and racial norms contributed to heightened violence and disadvantage for transwomen of color, exacerbated by higher-risk sex work, socioeconomic challenges, and institutional discrimination. Coping strategies included seeking support from health professionals and transgender community networks, but also harmful self-medication practices such as heavy substance use and self-harm.
