Online review forums, such as IMDb, allow consumers to share information about movies through word-of-mouth communication. While demographic characteristics influence preferences, gender is often not disclosed in user profiles. IMDb provides a unique gender filter to display reviews by men and women equally. This study uses logistic classification to analyze differences in writing style, content, and metadata between male and female reviews. It finds significant differences in style and content, aligning with sociolinguistic theories, but utility is the strongest predictor of gender. Women's reviews are generally perceived as less useful than men's, though highly rated female reviews exhibit "male" characteristics. These findings have implications for the visibility of contributions and the balance of perspectives presented to users.
