This article explores the use of online discussion forums to recreate social aspects of face-to-face learning during the COVID-19 pandemic, focusing on a Vector Calculus course using the Community of Inquiry (COI) framework. By analyzing data from interviews, surveys, discussion forum content, and learning platform analytics, the study assesses how discussion forums support social, cognitive, and teaching presences in an online learning community. The findings offer design principles for enhancing online learning environments and suggest directions for future research.
