This study investigates the relationship between online health forums or support groups and suicidality through both cross-sectional and longitudinal data. While cross-sectional data show positive correlations between suicidality and forum use, longitudinal analysis reveals that suicidality leads to increased use of online health forums over time. The findings suggest that, contrary to concerns about online forums exacerbating suicidality, these platforms may have preventive potential by providing accessible and helpful information.
