This study explores how infertility impacts marital relationships by analyzing discourse from online discussion boards and blogs (N = 438). Using a relational turbulence model, the authors identify key relational issues faced by couples coping with infertility. The qualitative analysis uncovers six major themes: two related to relational uncertainty (relational invalidation and implications of blame), two concerning partner interference (supremacy of the pregnancy goal and violated expectations for treatment involvement), and two about identity (strengthened relational identity and personal identity shifts).
