This qualitative study explores parents' and carers' understandings and concerns about topical corticosteroids for childhood eczema based on messages from two UK-based online forums. Analysis of 27 discussions involving 95 forum users revealed three main themes: diverse beliefs about topical corticosteroid use, uncertainty and confusion about their application, and the challenges of reconciling conflicting advice from offline sources. While some posts aimed to reassure users about the safety of topical corticosteroids when used correctly, the overall discussions tended to amplify existing concerns and confusion.
