This paper investigates the reasons for the low participation of women in social media voice forums within marginalized communities by examining the use of Sangeet Swara in India and Baang in Pakistan. Despite the widespread use of these voice forums by low-income, low-literate, rural, tribal, and disabled communities, women's participation remains minimal. Through a mixed-methods approach that includes content analysis of audio posts, quantitative analysis of user interactions, and qualitative interviews, the study reveals that deep-rooted patriarchal values contribute to gender inequity. Women face systemic discrimination and encounter abusive content, flirts, threats, and harassment. The paper concludes with design recommendations aimed at fostering gender equity in social media voice forums.
