This paper explores music learning and teaching within the Banjo Hangout online community using cyber ethnographic methods, including interviews and participant observation through computer-mediated communication like Skype, forum posts, and chat rooms. The Banjo Hangout, an online community with roots in offline Old Time and Bluegrass banjo communities, serves as a case study to examine the intersection of online and offline music practices. The research highlights the epistemological differences between online and offline communities, offering insights into music education and the qualitative research practices associated with online narratives.
