This paper addresses the challenge of identifying sock puppets—fake identities used to falsely promote products or investment schemes in online discussion groups. It proposes two approaches to detect these deceptive identities both within the same forum and across different forums. Evaluations conducted on millions of real posts from two popular Hong Kong discussion forums demonstrate the effectiveness of these methods in identifying sock puppet pairs.
