It's December and the holiday season is in full swing! If you are a leader of an online community, you may be looking for ways to bring holiday fun to your community.

Below we give you some ideas that are not only fun but will also encourage engagement for your online community:

A Virtual Holiday Party:

You could consider hosting a virtual holiday party for your community that involves music, virtual gift exchanges or party games. You can utilize platforms such as Discord or Zoom to create a festive holiday party atmosphere.

Festive Themed Challenges:

Holiday-themed challenges which your community members can participate in can be created by you the community leader with the help of your community moderators.

These could be weekly or daily challenges offered and could include:

  • Christmas tree decorating contest: Offer your members the chance to decorate their own Christmas trees and post photos in the community
  • Ugly Christmas Sweater Contest: Encourage your members to wear their favourite ugly Christmas sweater and post a photo in the community.
  • Holiday Lights Display Contest: Encourage your members to post their Christmas light display.
  • Favourite Holiday Recipe: Encourage your members to post their favourite holiday recipe
  • Virtual Gingerbread House Decorating: Encourage your community members to decorate a gingerbread house and post the final result to the community

These contests could allow your community members to vote on their favourites for a fair contest.

Virtual Secret Santa: Organizing and getting your community involved in a virtual Secret Santa gift exchange.

Online Secret Santa generators can be used to pair members of your community up randomly and encourage them to send digital gifts that are thoughtful and small.

Charity Drive Holiday Edition: Organize a charitable initiative within your community, these could be:

  • Fundraising event for a local charity
  • Virtual food drive

This will allow you to promote the spirit of giving during the holiday season and bring your community together to help the charities you choose.

Trivia Night Holiday Edition:

Organize a holiday-themed trivia night for your community with questions related to festive movies, historical events or traditions.

You can use online tools and platforms to help you create the holiday-themed trivia night.

Virtual Holiday Talent Show:

Encourage your community members to take part in a virtual talent show for the festive season. This would allow your members to showcase their talent and their creativity.

Community Card Exchange:

Encourage your community members to create their own virtual Christmas cards and send them to members of your community. This could be a great way for them to showcase their creativity as well as for members to receive a keepsake from the festive season.

No matter what you choose to do to bring some festive holiday fun to your online community, you must remember to tailor them to the preferences and interests of your online community.

Creating a sense of holiday cheer and togetherness within your community should be the goal you are aiming for.
