This study investigates long-term outcomes for patients with tracheoesophageal fistula (TEF) and/or esophageal atresia (EA) through a 50-point survey distributed in TEF/EA social media communities, gathering responses from 445 subjects. The findings reveal significant postoperative complications such as leaks, dysphagia, and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), with 26% experiencing postoperative leaks and 54% reporting dysphagia post-repair. GERD was reported by 76% of participants, with 22% of those needing antireflux surgery, and a considerable portion requiring multiple surgeries. The study underscores the chronic nature of esophageal problems post-TEF/EA repair and the necessity for long-term follow-up into adulthood.
