Bauder’s book “Immigration Dialectic: Imagining Community, Economy, and Nation” explores how immigration policies shape national identities and economies. He argues that immigration policies are shaped by competing discourses of nationalism and neoliberalism. Nationalism seeks to protect national identities by limiting immigration while neoliberalism values immigration as a way to increase economic growth. Bauder proposes a dialectical approach that takes into account the contradictions between these discourses and how they shape immigration policy.
