This paper presents a conceptual framework to understand the motivations and behaviors of members in online communities, focusing on different types of participants such as lurkers and elders. The framework is divided into three levels: (1) actions like posting messages and adding content, (2) the cognitive processes behind the decision to engage in these actions, and (3) the methods used to execute these actions within the community environment. The study also explores strategies to encourage participation by influencing how members perceive their desires and environment.
