As online knowledge communities face a paradigm shift with the rise of generative AI technologies like ChatGPT, our research highlights the impact on user participation. We find that users are increasingly turning to AI tools for answers, bypassing traditional communities, especially those lacking social cohesion. We propose a research agenda to better understand this evolving landscape.
