This paper discusses the potential of learning analytics to offer actionable insights for managers of online communities of practice, acknowledging the diverse purposes and activity patterns within these communities. It describes the learning analytics approach proposed by the U.S. Department of Education's Connected Educators project and presents preliminary applications of social network analysis to the National Science Teachers Association Learning Center as an example.
