The paper explores the concept that online communities, including forums, Facebook groups, and blogs, serve as rich sources of innovative ideas crucial for the continuous renewal of a firm's product offerings. Recognizing the challenge that the labor-intensive nature of sifting through online community data poses for idea detection, it acknowledges the potential of automating this process. Although research has indicated the feasibility of automatic idea detection from these digital platforms, there remains a gap in understanding the specific factors that enable this process. The paper highlights the need for further investigation into the mechanisms and criteria that facilitate the automatic identification of valuable ideas within the vast and varied content of online communities.
