This study delves into the dynamics of player engagement within online gaming communities, presenting a comprehensive framework to assess strategies for retaining players and fostering their continuous dedication. Through examining the constructs of social presence, telepresence, cognitive and affective social identity, along with psychological and behavioral engagement, this research draws on data from 338 players active in online gaming communities. Utilizing structural equation modeling (SEM) to analyze the interrelations among these constructs, the findings underscore the pivotal role of psychological engagement as a mediator in the engagement process. The study reveals that behavioral engagement, a key indicator of player retention, is significantly influenced by psychological engagement, which in turn is shaped by the players' social identities and their perceptions of social and telepresence within the gaming environment. These insights offer valuable theoretical and practical implications, providing a nuanced understanding of consumer engagement critical for game developers aiming to secure a sustainable competitive advantage and promote long-term sustainability in the online gaming sector.
