Cristianini and Lampos (2011) propose a method for nowcasting events from the social web using statistical learning techniques. The study shows how these techniques can be used to analyze social media data and extract information about real-world events in near real-time. The authors provide a detailed analysis of their method, including its accuracy and limitations, and suggest that this approach can be used in a variety of applications, such as predicting stock prices, monitoring public health, and forecasting political outcomes.
