This article explores the unique challenges faced by working mothers undertaking part-time PhD studies, a group often marginalized in the higher education sector. Through 35 in-depth interviews, it highlights the struggle to balance public, private, and professional lives. The study emphasizes the significance of online Communities of Practice (CoPs) in mitigating feelings of isolation and peripherality by offering a platform for self-expression, shared learning, and mutual support. Furthermore, the relevance of online CoPs has grown due to the changing dynamics brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, underscoring their importance in fostering inclusivity and support in academic environments.
