This study expands the understanding of online community success beyond the conventional single metric of membership numbers to include growth, retention, longevity, and activity levels. Through systematic analysis, it reveals that these success measures are not strongly correlated, indicating they represent distinct types of success. Furthermore, the research finds that different community attributes predict different success outcomes, highlighting the multifaceted nature of success in online communities. This insight is crucial for developing new communities and designing platforms, suggesting that a one-size-fits-all approach to measuring and predicting success is inadequate.
