This research presents a framework for analyzing the semantic variation of common words within Communities of Practice and topic-related communities, demonstrating that while some shifts in meaning are common across related communities, others are unique to specific communities, supporting sociolinguistic theories that suggest semantic variation is socially driven. The findings are validated through an independent language modeling task and further exploration into extralinguistic features reveals that the prominence and dissemination of words contribute to their semantic variation.
