Domínguez, Daniel et al. (2007) argue that virtual ethnography is a viable alternative to traditional ethnography, as they discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the approach. The authors argue that virtual ethnography offers researchers the ability to observe and analyze the practices of online communities, which can be difficult to observe in physical spaces. However, virtual ethnography may also be limited by the fact that it is difficult to determine the authenticity of online interactions.
