This systematic literature review analyzes 20 recent studies on older adults' participation in online communities, highlighting motivations such as cognitive benefits and enjoyment. It reveals a trend towards the use of social media platforms, emphasizes the importance of socio-cultural context, and suggests modern methodologies for research. The review calls for future studies to focus on the impact of social media, consider life phases in late adulthood, and include diverse cultural perspectives to accurately reflect the digital lives of older adults today.
