This research delves into the contentious nature of wind energy development in rural U.S. areas, particularly northwestern Ohio, through the lens of social media debates. Specifically, it analyzes content from two anti-wind Facebook Community Pages (FCPs), applying the corrosive community framework to categorize discourse into themes of health risk, recreancy, and litigation. The study examines the role of social media in shaping public discourse on local wind energy siting decisions and explores the dynamics between local and non-local actors before and after development. Findings suggest that the corrosive community framework effectively categorizes opposition discourse and highlights the significance of social media in mediating public debates, suggesting FCPs as a new form of community that bridges local and non-local perspectives in environmental conflicts.
