This article delves into the transformative potential of Web 2.0 technologies for education, with a special focus on foreign language learning. It highlights how these technologies foster interactive and participatory online learning environments. Specifically, the paper examines Social Networking Sites (SNS), showcasing Livemocha—a platform dedicated to facilitating collaboration among foreign language learners. Through an ethnographic approach, the study uncovers that SNSs serve not just for sustaining pre-existing connections but also for forging new ones among learners. Furthermore, it underscores the necessity for longitudinal studies to comprehensively understand the dynamics of online community formation and sustenance within the context of language learning.
