This study explores how consumers learn socially through distributed inquiry in six health-related online communities, using a pragmatic learning theory-based inquiry-action framework. It tracks the community inquiry processes over time and their impact on individual actions, identifying patterns of generative learning, individual disengagement, and faltering. Generative learning occurs when collective inquiry leads to broader individual action repertoires, while disengagement and faltering disrupt learning by breaking the link between inquiry and action.
