This paper discusses the significant participation of Americans in online health care groups, driven by the gaps in the current health care system. It highlights the role of such online communities in fulfilling patients' needs that extend beyond traditional medical treatment, using the IS success model to underline the importance of voluntary technology use as a success indicator. The study emphasizes the concept of "task-technology fit" and introduces a sociocultural aspect to better understand the technology's success. It calls for a deeper exploration of patient needs within health care that online communities meet, suggesting that stakeholders actively engage in these communities to enhance patient care quality and achieve mutual benefits.
