In "Limitations of Communities of Practice," Kerno (2008) argues that communities of practice (CoPs) have certain limitations that need to be addressed to ensure their effectiveness. The author highlights the importance of recognizing that not all individuals within an organization will want to join a CoP, nor will they be able to attend all meetings. Kerno stresses that the composition of the group is important for its success and that finding a common purpose that is relevant to all members is crucial. Additionally, the author argues that CoPs can become a mechanism for maintaining the status quo rather than challenging it, and that individuals who are not part of the group can be excluded from knowledge sharing.
