This study investigates the impact of online anonymity on the dynamics of online communities, proposing a novel operational definition encompassing three dimensions: unlinkability, unobservability, and pseudonymity. Through a web-based survey of 238 online community users in South Korea, findings demonstrate that these dimensions of anonymity significantly contribute to self-discrepancy among users, which positively affects both the quality and quantity of information sharing in online platforms. This research sheds light on the nuanced role of anonymity in digital interactions, challenging the predominantly negative perception of anonymous activities by highlighting its potential to enhance information exchange in online communities.
