This study explores how the competitive position of a platform influences the behavior of volunteer contributors within online communities, focusing on game wiki platforms. It finds that platforms with a stronger competitive position see increased activity due to better contributor coordination and enhanced motivation, resulting in a larger, more productive community. Specifically, platforms that perform better competitively attract more contributors and encourage higher contributions from existing members, especially from those who are highly productive.
