This case study investigates the impact of online communities on the professional development of Vietnamese EFL teachers through the lens of Wenger’s communities of practice (CoP) framework. Utilizing Facebook groups as the online CoP platform, due to its high penetration in Vietnam, the study surveyed 84 teachers and analyzed interactions over five months. The findings highlight differences in engagement, perceived benefits, and moderation between university lecturers and school teachers in these groups. This research provides valuable insights for designing and managing online CoPs in social media environments, emphasizing the importance of context-specific considerations in facilitating teacher learning and collaboration.
