This study explores the dynamics of gratitude within online communities, aiming to understand how expressions of thanks occur, fail, or are enhanced among users. Through Critical Incident interviews with 8 users across various platforms, the research uncovers 17 instances of gratitude exchanges, leading to the development of a "gratitude cycle" model. This model elucidates the complex process of expressing and recognizing gratitude online, offering insights for designing platforms that foster a culture of gratitude, thereby motivating participation and enhancing community health.
