This study investigates the factors influencing contributions from "one-time" visitors in online communities, using Amazon Mechanical Turk to experiment with commenting behaviors. Key findings indicate that personal ties, trust, self-efficacy, prompt phrasing, and activity levels (both synchronous and pre-existing) significantly impact the quantity, length, and relevance of comments made by these transient contributors. The results offer insights into designing online communities to better engage and benefit from the contributions of occasional visitors.
