Since Zimbabwe's independence in 1980, the government has struggled to accommodate all linguistic and cultural groups, leading to disenfranchisement of linguistic minorities. In response, these minorities have turned to social media, forming vibrant ethnolinguistic online communities on platforms like Facebook. This study analyzes the motivations and purposes of these online communities, drawing on concepts such as hegemony, hidden transcripts, and alternative media. Findings reveal that these communities provide space for linguistic minorities to protest against marginalization and language shift, promoting the use of their languages. The study contributes to understanding the intersection of language politics and social media in Zimbabwe.
