This study explores the dominant "fun online" culture within seniors' online communities, aiming to uncover its unique qualities. Employing an online ethnography approach, the research analyzed a year's worth of data from six prominent seniors' online communities, comprising around 50,000 posts. The findings reveal that the majority of posts revolve around online social games, covering cognitive, associative, and creative games. Main discussion subjects include sex, gender differences, aging, grandparenting, politics, faith, and alcohol. While many participants are passive "lurkers," active members contribute to nurturing community norms and relationships through written dialogues. The fun culture in these communities offers various benefits, including meaningful play, opportunities for skill demonstration, and coping mechanisms for aging, ultimately contributing to seniors' well-being and successful aging.
