This paper investigates social roles within online communities using qualitative methods, focusing on an ideological and a non-ideological community. The study identifies various social roles and assesses their significance within each community, finding differences from existing literature. Two models are proposed to illustrate the trajectories of social roles over time in different online communities. The implications of these findings for understanding online communities are discussed, shedding light on the complexity and evolution of social dynamics within these digital spaces.
