Leveraging social exchange theory (SET), social penetration theory (SPT), and cross-cultural individualism-collectivism theory, the study finds that positive social influences, reciprocity, and trust in online communities enhance self-disclosure, while privacy risk beliefs inhibit it. Additionally, a tendency towards collectivism is associated with increased self-disclosure, with French participants displaying higher levels of horizontal individualism compared to their British counterparts.
