This study investigates the impact of hierarchical positions on the type of communication within Communities of Learning (CoL) by analyzing 25 CoLs in a global organization, involving 249 staff members. It found that individuals in higher hierarchical positions engaged more in social and cognitive communication and had better network positions within the CoL. A notable sub-group, termed "Stars," was identified for their central role in CoL regardless of their hierarchical standing. The study suggests design and facilitation strategies for CoL to enhance learning outcomes and outlines avenues for future research.
